Swine Influenza

Sinopse

Modern days are being overwhelmed by the versatile diseases being prevailing and threatening the lives of innocents across the world equally. Many native ailments have been evolving in the recent decades whilst the resuming production of new strains of maladies across the globe. All these diseases have aroused great concern amongst the masses regarding the preventive and causative measures that can be adopted to avoid them. One of the potent diseases is that of Influenza. It has been quite popular for the past few decades with a series of researches and experiments being conducted on it. Influenza is a Latin word which carries the meaning “to influence” and is basically an infectious or a contagious disease primarily caused by the RNA viruses belonging to the family Orthomyxoviridae that affects the birds and mammals exclusively. Common symptoms related to the illness are chills, sore throat, weakness and general comfort with coughing and fever being the most common indicators. In most serious cases, Influenza can result in causing pneumonia which can prove to be quite fatal with the young and elderly people. It may also produce nauseate feelings and subsequent vomiting, particularly in children.Influenza spreads around the world mostly in the pandemic years. Pandemic refers to a specified category of Influenza diseases that separates many of its distinctive types and sub-types. Any disease is categorized as pandemic when it is able of fulfilling the three conditions. First that it is introduced in a new population and is rather a new type or sub-type. Secondly, it originates or causes serious illness in human beings and lastly that it can only spread in a sustained manner. As influenza has many further types, all of them have not been recognized as pandemic except for few of its types and sub-types. Influenza can be transmitted through the population by way of coughs and sneezes. Bird droppings can also partake in the spread of the ailment, including, their saliva, nasal secretions, faeces and blood, if direct contact is made with them or with any other surface that has been contaminated by these droppings. On the other hand, these viruses can be deactivated by sunlight, detergents and disinfectants. So, evidently, these viruses can be avoided by frequent hand washing which can wipe away their traces that might consequently cause a fatal illness. Influenza viruses also mutate and evolve with the passage of time, some having a greater and rest having a rather lower rate of mutation. New strains of viruses are also created when the existing virus spreads to human population from other animalspecies.Simultaneously, it also happens while the existent strains pick up new genes from a virus that usually contaminates birds or pigs. As for the cases of vaccinations, most common vaccine that is widely consumed against the disease is that of Trivalent Influenza Vaccine (TIV). It consists of purified and inactivated materials from three viral strains, two from the Influenza A virus subtypes and one from Influenza B virus. This vaccine carries no possible danger of transmitting the disease and has very low reactivity. But as the viruses evolve on regular basis or rapidly, any one strain becomes ineffective after a specified limit or working time. Many people also mix it up with the common influenza-like illnesses especially the common cold. But Influenza is a more serious and severe disease and is caused by a different type of virus as compared to the common cold’s strain.
